Slam Dunk EMP Bio:
Slam Dunk EMP is our proprietary events management platform — a fully bespoke alternative to the per-registrant, per-year licensing model that dominates the enterprise events market. Rather than renting software, our clients own theirs outright.
QR Check-In & Attendance is the platform’s newest module, built and available now.
Brief
QR code scanning has become the modern standard for event check-in — from conferences and concerts to stadiums and airports, it is simply how attendees are admitted now. Yet a surprising number of organisations still run event day on printed attendee lists, pens, and a spreadsheet reconciled the following week. Registration, payment, invoicing and communications are all automated in a modern platform — and then, on the morning of the event, staff revert to clipboards.
Behind that inconvenience sits a more serious problem. Any organisation issuing certificates, CPD credits or accredited professional development hours needs to know not just that an attendee turned up, but that they stayed. A single sign-in sheet at the door confirms only arrival. Where certification depends on completing a full session, that record rests on an honour system — and honour systems don’t survive an audit.
We set out to build a module that solved both: bring event day up to the standard attendees now expect, and in doing so produce an attendance record that can actually be defended.

Project Executions
We designed and built a QR code check-in and attendance module as a native part of Slam Dunk EMP — not a third-party bolt-on, but a system that draws attendee names, statuses and session assignments directly from the platform organisers already use every day.
Every attendee receives a unique QR code, generated automatically at registration and attached to their confirmation email. On event day, staff open a lightweight scanner app in the browser on their own phones and use the phone camera to check attendees in as they arrive. No handheld scanners, no rented hardware, no new equipment of any kind — and no per-device licence.
Critically, the module supports multi-point scanning. Attendees can be scanned at the start of a session, again at the midpoint, and once more at the end. That sequence turns a simple arrival log into genuine verification of completed hours — precisely the evidence that accreditation and CPD certification require, and precisely what a sign-in sheet cannot provide.

Brief
Behind the scanner sits a live dashboard. As each scan lands, it updates in real time on any laptop or tablet at the registration desk, showing exactly who has arrived and who is still missing across every concurrent session. Colour-coded progress bars give organisers an instant read on attendance levels per room, so problems surface while there is still time to act on them — rather than in a post-event reconciliation.
When the event closes, the complete attendance record — every attendee, every session, every scan point — exports to Excel in a single click, ready to feed straight into certificate issuing, internal reporting, or funder evidence.
Built as a progressive web app, the scanner runs in the browser on any modern smartphone, with a dark mode option for low-light venues and session persistence so staff never lose their place mid-queue.
